Sara’s teaching is known for its humor, energy and light heartedness mixed with proven techniques which get the best out of every dancer. She has inspired students to qualify, teach and perform a huge variety of Middle Eastern and Fusion styles, but still loves to introduce new dancers to the joys of belly dance .
With up to 12 classes a week over more than ten years she has evolved a foundation course that builds strong, informed and skillful dancers, while still encouraging self expression and improvisation.
As a performer she has danced at a huge variety of venues in both the USA and UK, from weddings and stage shows to hafla and fetes. Her warm style engages audiences and she combines passion, humor and storytelling with core technique and effortless skills.
As co-founder of Mersin she had the chance to direct and choreograph a professional troupe for nearly ten years. Her Us troupe “Neshee Dulo” performs at a variety of events in and around the Bay area.
Sara has written two books on belly dance. Her first, "Teaching Belly Dance" has many five star reviews on Amazon. Her new book "Becoming a Belly Dancer: from Student to Stage" will be available in the new year.
Sara writes “I love Bellydance because everyone can dance within their first lesson and yet it takes a lifetime to master. It needs two very different skills: firstly there is the technique, how to make the moves, which muscles to use ; then there is the emotional layer, how the music makes you feel and how you can convey that to your audience. Some students come to class very focused on their technique, very precise, and they can stand next to the dancer who is lost in the music, seemingly waving her arms about without purpose. Both of them are dancing, and both of them need to learn from the others natural abilities to make them great dancers.”
